Search sources as yourself

For administrators, engineers, security and compliance 4 min readAvailability depends on your plan

Have Ask ELOS and search read Confluence or GitHub with each person's own account, so the source decides what each person can see.

Before you begin

  • To turn it on: the Manage integrations permission, and an OAuth app of your own in the source (a GitHub App, or an Atlassian OAuth 2.0 app for Confluence).

By default ELOS searches a connected source with the workspace's connection, within each person's read scope. With per-user access, ELOS searches that source only with each person's own account instead, so a page someone can't open in Confluence never reaches their answer.

Turn it on (administrators)

  1. Open Integrations and, on the connected source, choose Per-user access.
  2. Copy the Redirect URL shown and register it in your OAuth app at the source.
  3. Enter the app's Client id and Client secret, then choose Turn on. The secret is stored in a dedicated secrets store and is never shown again.

Connect your account (everyone)

  1. Open your profile (your initials, top right). Your connections lists the sources searched with your own account.
  2. Choose Connect next to a source and approve access on the source's own page. You come back to your profile.
  3. Choose Disconnect at any time. For GitHub, ELOS also revokes its access at GitHub.

Your token is kept in the secrets store, never in the database, and is removed when you disconnect, when you leave the organization, or when your data is erased. Today this works for Confluence and GitHub.

What's next

  • Ask ELOS: Ask a question and get an answer from your organization's own knowledge, with citations, scoped to what you can see.
  • AI and your data: What Ask ELOS can read, who controls it, and how your data is protected when AI is involved.
